U.S. Soldier Gets the Surprise of His Life
U.S. Soldier Gets the Surprise of
His Life
Good friends are priceless.
Spc. Bob Metcalf, an Indiana National Guard soldier who spent a year in Mosul,
Iraq, knows this firsthand. During his homecoming he was greeted with a new
car--but one unlike any other.
Long ago, Metcalf, 39, purchased a rusted 1967
Plymouth Barracuda that he planned to fix up someday. While he was off fighting
for his country, his friends back home secretly did all the work and came up
with the needed cash for parts, transforming that junk heap into a deep blue,
chrome-trimmed car lover's dream, reports The Associated Press. They called the
project "one soldier's dream."
To present the car to him last month, Metcalf's
buddies invited him to the Cavalcade of Wheels auto show in South Bend, Ind. The
shiny car that now sports red and white stripes was under a spotlight. That was
when they sprung the surprise and told him the car was his old Barracuda. "I
don't believe it. This is incredible," he said as a crowd of dozens of
volunteers and cameras watched him. They gave him the keys and told him to start
the engine--a hot-rodded Chrysler 318
