Why people are poor
Are people in this country really poor?
Compare our poor to the poor in India,
or China, or Africa.
We can at least
get health care if we are dying. We don't lie in a gutter covered in flies. We
can trot down to the local food bank; they must scrounge through sewage and
garbage in said gutters. I could go on -
But more importantly is - WHY are we
poor? Let's take an acquaintance of mine. She has no real job, but works
part-time handing out samples in grocery stores. Her live-in partner owns the
trailer they live in. He is on some kind of disability, I think because he has
lost vision in one eye, but can still ride their expensive motorcycles. He has
filed bankruptcy, but still has a home, a truck, and 2 motorcycles. Nice ones,
as I see it. They get free health care on an Indian reservation because he is
part native of some tribe, yet she bitches about not having health insurance.
She sold some property and paid off a few of their bills, then promptly ran her
CC's back up buying a big-screen TV and some new living room furniture. I don't
have motorcycles, a big screen TV, or new living room furniture - mine came from
an estate sale after we moved here.
They own some kind of timeshare; we
vacation a day at a time by going diving locally for the cost of gas and gas.
They got a free cruise with their timeshare, then couldn't afford to pay the
port taxes so weren't able to use it. She bitches about the pollution and
global warming, yet sees no issues with the cruise ship industry - or with
taking pleasure trips on a motorcycle - with dozens of others - isn't there a
bit of greenhouse gas emitted
there?
Cruise ships. A rant for
another day........
