mac and cheese

Lucy and I had mac and cheese for dinner, the good homemade kind with real cheddar cheese, baked til its crispy on the edges. Mmmmmmmm. Now watching the news channels cover Hurricane Rita coming into Beaumont, TX. Now we are seeing Greta in a yellow raincoat while flashing to the new FoxNews reporter, Shep, interviewing some moron about evacuations. When they could not stand up any longer, they lost connection and we cut to Greta in a chic yellow raincoat and lovely Fox ballcap. Not sure where she is. Shep is back up now and is being buffetted around the street and has lost his hat. Surely Darwin will see that these idiots are not around to report on yet another hurricane. One can hope.

Mike is off to Colorado, seeing customers and fishing. I'm avoiding the dissertation but about to stop procrastinating, crack a nice bottle of merlot, and have at it. I figure since Mike is gone, I can work all night if i want to. Problem is, I have lab books to grade and plans to do and I want the bio website UP by Monday. Thank you to my wonderful TA Sheila who worked on the nasty syllabus pages. I'll do the thing after I get this chapter of the dissertation done.

Geoff is on his way from baghdad to kuwait, best we can figure. Angie hopes he is home sunday night. She is not sleeping and probably won't until he is home with her. I just pray for safe travels for him. A week from this very second we will be having dinner here and I will be able to reach out and touch him for the first time in nearly 11 mos. Had the cutest IM with him last night and he is quite excited too. I understand that when they get into the airport in Atlanta, they get a standing ovation. I wish more than anything I could see him then - all those people looking at him in awe, as the hero that he is, would make me cry. He IS my hero, and really always has been even before he volunteered to protect us all.
